Back To School Bash

A Huge Hit for Kids and their Families

The Kiwanis Club of Oxford held its annual Back to School Bash at Oxford’s Aquatic Center and Community Park on Sunday, August 10th from 5:30-8:30 pm. The purpose of the Back-to-School-Bash is to provide families with school-age children a fantastic start to the new school year, which began three days later on August 13th. Over 600 residents enjoyed the event on a very muggy 90-degree late August afternoon. The BASH was a multi-activity program that was highlighted by enjoying the municipal pool areas, a light dinner of pizza, water, chips and ice cream–free for all individuals in attendance. Yard games and inflatables in the grassy areas were also provided for the children.

The Back-to-School Bash is the brain-child of Kiwanian, Jennifer Marston, who is a long- time local resident. The BASH is now in its fourth year and is the premier and Signature Event for the local Kiwanis Club. The sponsors providing financial support for the Back-to-School Bash included McCullough-Hyde Foundation, Ohio District Kiwanis and the Kiwanis Club of Oxford. Other key partners of the Back to School Bash are Thread Up Oxford, Coldwell Banker College Real Estate, Oxford Parks and Recreation, and Primary Health Solutions.

Besides providing an enjoyable Sunday evening for participants, a main purpose was to provide helpful information, offer services, and school supplies. Thread Up Oxford provided more than 800 articles of clothing for 110 families. AP Church gave out new underwear and socks. Primary Health Solutions donated dental supplies for children and youth. The Talawanda Oxford Pantry and Social Services handed out educational literature and snacks. Eighty students received gratis haircuts from the barbers at Faded Traditions in Oxford and hairdressers from The Ambassador Point Church. A number of local organizations had booths with information for parents and free school supplies for students. These organizations included:The Coalition for a Healthy Community Oxford Area, Kiwanis, The Oxford Senior
Center, Girl Scouts, Cub Scouts, AP Church and Walmart.

Thirty-five members of the Kiwanis Club volunteered for the event and were assisted by a number of Oxford friends and family.
